Japanese gardens in spring

Cherry blossom -- the biggest event in Japan

Cherry

The most planted charry trees called Someiyoshino bloom in April.
Someiyoshino blooms before leaves appear, so, trees are covered with white-pink. This is the only showy period in Japanese garden while green is more important rest of seasons. Blooming lasts only for a week. So, most of Japanese go to the garden to see cherry blossom. The gardens are always crowded.

Azalea

After cherries have finished, in Japanese gardens, many kinds of azaleas are beginning to bloom. The trees are well pruned like balls. So, trees look like pink or red balls. They make a good contrast with green moss.
